VIALLA de SOMMIERES, Colonel L.C.
Voyage Historique et Politique au Montenegro.
Vialla de Sommieres spent six years in Montenegro, circa1806-12, as governor of Cattaro, during the French occupation of Dalmatia in the Napoleonic wars. The only English edition of this work was published in Sir Richard Phillips' series New Voyages and Travels, is abridged and has only 8 plates, and was without a map, although one was mentioned on the title. This French edition is obviously of far more importance and value.
