CLARK, I.
Views in Scotland, Drawn on the Spot.
Clark's hand-coloured magnificent and large aquatint views of Scotland show Scotland in the early years of the Industrial Revolution, some cities largely unchanged for centuries and others, such as Port Glasgow, in the throes of gigantic industrial change and population movement.

FIRST EDITION. 3 vols. Large oblong folio, title, index, engraved title, and 35 (of 36) hand-coloured aquatint plates. Photographic reproductions of the title leaf and list of plates. Each exquisite print is mounted and preserved in three folio-sized modern half red morocco cloth-backed albums, matching morocco gilt label and spine. Imprints suggest that the work appeared in several parts, and publication ceased before the general title was issued. "ONE OF THE RAREST OF PLATE BOOKS" (Tooley). The 36th plate of the Town of Tairn was published three years later than the others (in 1828) - the others are all dated between 1824-25. Coloured plates in order: Volume 1. Plates 1-12. 1.
