FIRST EDITION. A complete set of gorgeous hand-colored lithographs depicting Vichy and its surroundings is the most beautiful publication that is devoted to the area. This collection, complete with five pages of plate-by-plate descriptive text and 17 lithographs on fine wove paper, is not to be confused with similarly-titled (and markedly inferior) publications of the same period. As with most sets of 19th century lithographed views, this set was issued both colored and uncolored. Colored sets were far more expensive at the time of publication and thus are far rarer. THIS SET IS FROM THE COLORED ISSUE, AND THE COLOURING IS SIMPLY STUNNING. Oblong 4to. Bound in publisher's gold-stamped 'percaline' (polished cloth). Light wear to binding, prelims browned. Faint marginal spotting but plates BRIGHT AND FINE with the colouring extremely fresh. VERY RARE. Boards are slightly rubbed and worn. Coloured plates in order: 1. Vieux-Vichy. 2. Parc et Etablissement Thermal de Vichy. 3. Source de L'Hopital. 4. Source des Celestins. 5. Habitation de Strauss. 6. Place Verrier. 7. Fontaine de la Chaume. 8. Moulin de Presle. 9. Ste. Marie Cusset. 10. Place de Cusset. 11. Le Goure Saillant. 12. Bourbon-Busset. Cour d'Honneur. 13. Beffroi Chateldon. 14. Pont de Ris. 15. Maulmont. 16. Randan. 17. Chateau de Billy.
