Small 8vo. Original red flowered Chinese cloth, with title-label on spine, in original stiff boards slipcase. With 5 full-page lithographed plates by P.W.M. Trap, showing scenes from Chinese daily life, all richly and very beautifully coloured by hand. VIII, 135 pp. FIRST EDITION of one of the most beautifully produced and exquisitely illustrated works - coloured by hand after the Chinese fashion. The book presents five stories on the daily life of children in China, and was intended to teach Dutch children about life in China and to make the Dutch feel closer to Chinese children. Each story is beautifully illustrated and brightly coloured. A pristine copy of a rare and famous book, with previous ownership signature of "J. Rutgers 1847". Coloured plates in order: 1.
