GRANDVILLE, J. J.
Un Autre Monde.
This work in which the author shows a totally unbridled fantasy, featuring improbable beings, animals, objects or anthropomorphic plants, or even hybrids, accompanied by unusual texts, was however poorly received by the public who judged that its author had already sunk into the madness which was to prevail a few years later, in 1847. It was not until the surrealists to see in this delirious illustration anything other than the work of a madman.

Half-title verso and title-page printed in red. With engraved frontis. Numerous woodcut vignettes and 36 full-page hand-coloured plates. Binding slightly rubbed and knocked; spine and book-square a little bit scraped; spine sunned somewhat; minimally foxed; plates minimally browned; first pages with a tiny water stain at the bottom; name 'G.
