Original hand-coloured engraved plates with portraits of the 52 German emperors depicted in architectural surrounds, as they are on the walls of the Kaisersaals, with their Latin mottos appended.

[Overview of the history of the German emperors and kings.] 8vo. (20.5 x 13 cm.) pp. iv+(2)+112. Original red cloth with blind-stamped border, gilt title, and gilt-stamped vignette of Frankfurt showing Römer Square and the town hall, green patterned endpapers, blue paper shelf label to foot of (sunned) spine. The frontispiece and all plates have tissue guards. Small ink spots on tissue guard to frontispiece. Tissue guard facing p.44 present but detached - else very good. A chronological chart detailing the artist and donor behind each portrait commission precedes the text and an alphabetical index of the emperors.
