4to. X 1 l. 632 pp. one hand-coloured engraved portrait as a frontispiece and 7 engraved plates of which 4 are hand-coloured. Contemporary full calf with decorative gilt to spine, gilt borders to boards, Black title label to spine, marbled endpapers. The second edition of this very popular work on China. With the small armorial bookplate of I. (or J.) M. de Reck tipped in on front paste-down. Slightly foxed throughout and most plates are a little toned, however, still a good copy in an attractive binding with some minor expert restorations. Barrow was in the suite of the Earl of Macartney's embassy of 1792 to the Emperor of China. Barrow was created a Baronet in 1835.
