HENDLEY, Thomas Holbein.
The Rulers of India and the Chiefs of Rajputana, 1550 to 1897.
Hendley depicts the rulers of India from the end of the sixteenth century up until the end of the nineteenth century, beginning with a portrait of Emperor Akbar, the founder of the Mughal Empire. Hendley worked in any number of of positions in India, including the medical service and the Foreign Department.

First edition. Folio 42pp, coloured frontispiece portrait of Queen Victoria, 7 monochrome plates of British rulers etc; 4 depicting multiple subjects, 18 plates of Indian rulers of which 17 are chromolithograph. All showing multiple subjects. In the original red cloth binding with ornate patterned gilt borders with decorative corner pieces - this is replicated in blind to the lower board. Upper board slightly bowed, otherwise a very good copy. Title, author and publisher in gilt to spine. Inscription to front endpaper in blue pen. The book is dedicated to Queen Victoria.
