VAN LENNEP, Rev'd. Henry.
The Oriental Album. Twenty Illustrations, in Oil Colours of the People and Scenery of Turkey, with an explanatory and descriptive text…

First and only edition of this very rare and stunning American chromolithographic work with lavish color plates. One of the few large-scale American chromolithographic works produced during the Civil War period, and probably the best such work created in 19th- Century America. Van Lennep had been a missionary in Anatolia since 1840 and produced these fascinating costume drawings in oils largely of the Armenians there, but also of Greeks and Jews. This is a rare work.
