Contemporary half calf over diced boards; gilt to spine, title and spine worn and rubbed; "By One of the Family" (illustrator). FIRST EDITION, with 23 excellent satyrical hand-coloured plates. A spoof on British sporting society. Boards worn to extremities, spine, and hinges. Internally - generally clean and bright but with occasional finger marks or spots. Some offsetting from the plates to their opposing text page. viii 136, 23 plates (of 24) lacks the half-title. Bound by Townsend & Wood of Liverpool. Sporting activities described include hunting in Hampshire and shooting Grouse on the moors. Coloured plates in order: 1. Dressing the Young Squire - who is Obstropolous. 2. Young Squire gets Ferrul'd for neglecting his Studies. 3. Breaking Cover or Hunting in Hampshire. 4. Tries a New Shooting Poney - Which Won't Do. 5. Crammed at College by his Tutor for a Degree. 6.
