SCARCE. pp.[3] Eight hand-coloured lithograph plates. A most unusual and attractive set of prints was made of the elder prince Nawaub Ukbal ul Dowlah and his entourage on their visit to London in 1838. The visit was well reported as the prince was in England to petition the East India Company in favour of his claim to the throne - a claim which failed. The prints are based on sketches by an unknown, invalid lady ['H.J'] who completed them as their subjects passed in the London hotel where she was a guest. A rather pleasing copy mounted on guards in the original red cloth binding with title embossed in gilt and tooled in blind; neatly re-backed. All edges are gilt. Occasional minor foxing - else good. The preface reads: "The profits of the work are to be given to the Consumption Hospital, Brompton." Coloured plates in order: 1. King of Oude. 2. Brother to the King. 3. Brahmin. 4.
