The History of New South Wales includes the FIRST coloured views of Sydney and is an important early account of the colony, are the first colour-plate Australian views, and are also among the earliest engravings to show proper settlement.

FIRST EDITION, first issue, octavo, half-title, engraved hand-coloured title vignette, 15 hand-coloured plates, full-page woodcut illustration. Half tan calf over burgundy coloured paper boards, gilt to spine. Marbled endpapers. Wantrup states that this work was almost certainly not by Barrington, who suffered ill health from 1800 until he died in 1804. He suspects this work was a verbatum account from David Collins's 2 vol 'Account of the English Colony in New South Wales.' Coloured plates in order: 1. Frontispiece. Sydney. 2.
