FIRST EDITION, first issue, octavo, half-title, engraved hand-coloured title vignette, 15 hand-coloured plates, full-page woodcut illustration. Half tan calf over burgundy coloured paper boards, gilt to spine. Marbled endpapers. Wantrup states that this work was almost certainly not by Barrington, who suffered ill health from 1800 until he died in 1804. He suspects this work was a verbatum account from David Collins's 2 vol 'Account of the English Colony in New South Wales.' Coloured plates in order: 1. Frontispiece. Sydney. 2. Title page coloured vignette of a black swan. 3. A Male & Female Native. 4. Manhood. 5. Burning the Dead. 6. Courtship. 7. A Native Dog. 8. Kangaroo. 9. Bird of Paradise. 10. Black Cockatoo. 11. Hornbill. 12. Mountain Eagle. 13. Emu. 14. Blue Snake / Black & White Snake. 15. [Flora] Banksia Serata / Banksia Pyfiformis / Peppermint Tree / Tea Tree / Yellow Gum Tree.
