[LITERATURE]
The Heroines of Shakespeare comprising the principal female characters in the plays of the great poet.
These beautiful engravings were done by various artists under the direction of Charles Heath (1785-1848) who was the principal engraver for the works of Sir Walter Scott and once he finished Rob Roy, he and his sons worked to produce these remarkable images.

4to in red half morocco with rule in gilt to boards. The spine comprises six decorative gilt compartments with gilt-raised bands, titled in the second compartment. Boards and spine showing signs of minor wear. Prelims are slightly foxed; otherwise, the contents are good. Coloured endpapers. All edges gilt. Engraved in the highest style of art, from drawings by eminent artists. Beautiful (later) hand colouring to plates. Signature on front free end paper "M.D. Feilden 1864".
