Illustrated with engravings by W. B. Cooke from drawings by eminent artists accompanied by literary sketches by H. Noel Humphreys. Cooke was an English-born Line Engraver who wintered in Rome as a small portion of a larger sojourn throughout the south of Europe.

4to. Half leather with green silk cloth boards. Title in gilt to spine, raised bands to spine with gilt decoration in alternate compartments, titled in the third compartment. Boards faded, rubbed and worn, corners bumped, spine cracked and worn, with slight loss. Crude repairs to the tail of the spine. Bound originally by D. Batten of Clapham Common. Coloured endpapers, minor age-toning, and foxing throughout, else good. Thirty-one uncoloured steel engraved plates from the 'Eternal City,' including The Coliseum, St Peter's, Campo Veccino, Temple of Concord, The Pantheon, and Ponte Salario. Plates are not listed as they are uncoloured.
