A series of prints showing the traditional clothing of Scotland worn by various clans. Each plate shows a person wearing the costume in a natural setting. According to the work's subtitle, the illustrations show appropriate figures, displaying their dress, tartans, arms, armourial insignia, and social occupations.

Contemporary decorative green cloth with a Scottish coat of arms embossed in gilt on upper boards, flanked by a sword and shield design, floral and foliage gilt corner pieces, blind to lower boards. Spine expertly re-backed, saving the original spine with six floral gilt design compartments of raised bands gilt lettering in compartments two and three. All edges gilt. Contains two frontispieces with the coat of arms of the different Scottish clans, together with 72 chromolithographs of the various clans and tartans. Volume 1: P. fronts, blank title, blank dedications. Volume 2: P. fronts, blank title, blank illustration list v-vi person index vii-xiv plates with descriptions.
