BROWN, Captain Thomas.
The Book of Butterflies, Sphinxes and Moths. [Constable's miscellany of original and selected publications, Vol. 75-76]
Interesting coloured and uncoloured images of moths and butterflies and sphinx moths. The Sphingidae are a family of moths (Lepidoptera) called sphinx moths, also colloquially known as hawk moths. Constable's 'Miscellany' was a part publishing serial established by Archibald Constable. Three numbers made up a volume; many of the works were divided into several volumes. The price of a number was one shilling. The full series title was Constable's Miscellany of Original and Selected Publications in the Various Departments of Literature, Science, and the Arts.

Vol. II has 208 pp. The 96 hand-colored plates are numbered consecutively, with numerous woodcut illustrations to text; extra engraved titles indicate that these are Volume 75 and Volume 76 of "Constables Miscellany of Original and Selected Publications."
