The Australian Sketchbook.
The Australian Sketchbook is a collection of 24 works by artist Samuel Thomas Gill. The scenes include bushrangers, diggers heading for the goldfields, a bush funeral, kangaroo and emu hunting and a corroboree. Published around 1865 by Melbourne printing and publishing firm Hamel and Ferguson, the book was extremely popular and ran to several editions.

Oblong folio, 25 chromolithographs including the title. Contemporary full brown morocco with ornate gilt tooling to borders, lettered in gilt to spine and upper board, all edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Boards chipped in places. Considered Gill's most famous volume, this is one of Australia's best 19th-century illustrated books. Coloured plates in order: 1. Title page. 2.
