A first edition - later states had the publisher's catalogue at the back, dated 1866 while retaining the original 1862 pub date. Half green calf over marbled boards with a beautiful gilt pattern to spine compartments; title in gilt to spine; raised bands to spine; marbled edges and endpapers. Spine and inner hinges have been professionally re-backed, corners repaired, etc., boards slightly rubbed but the text block is as tight as new; text, lithos & maps are pristine (with two minor exceptions). 4 lithos & 2 fold-out maps.
