Alken's Rare Satire successfully transplants Horse's Ass to Rider's Seat! A work of great scarcity with only one copy of the first edition (1821) and only three copies of this, the second edition, coming to auction within the last thirty-five years. The last copy appeared over twenty-two years ago.

Oblong folio. Three-quarter black leather over boards. Tooled in blind to boards; an octagonal gilt leather device with a crown over the capital letter 'G' to boards; Gilt lettering to spine; bookplates of: "The Right Hon Lord Gray" & "Robert Lionel Forster" to front pastedown. Lacks title. Eighteen hand-coloured illustrations, each with McLean's imprint and date, each plate with H. Alken and date. There was a second edition in 1823. Plates are not bound in numerical order.
