Sir Rowland Hill Centenary Stamp Album 1965-1982.

A wonderful and fitting pair of stamp albums reflecting and commemorating the life and work of Sir Rowland Hill - the creator of the first uniform 'penny postage' stamp in England. Hill, a social reformer, campaigned heavily for a comprehensive reform of the postal system, based on the concept of a uniform penny post.

A lovely beautifully presented matching pair of red stamp albums with a gilt title and lettering in German, and with a replica 'penny black' gilt stamp to the spines. Each album begins with a page of explanatory German text with a written guarantee of authenticity and an official stamp sellers stamp (Richard Borek of Braunschweig). Each stamp page features a facsimile signature of Sir Rowland Hill (1795-1979), with specific page and stamp explanations in German. All stamp pages are of top quality and are thick. Most, but not all commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Sir Rowland Hill in 1879.
