SMITH, Charles Hamilton.
Selection of the Ancient Costume of Great Britain and Ireland, from the seventh to sixteenth century, out of collection in possession of the author
This monumental work on costume was illustrated from drawings he [Smith] made from his own collections, afterward etched by John Augustus Atkinson, who may have revitalized the sketches. His principal aim was to make it possible for the theatre and for painters to reproduce historical costumes accurately.
