Select Views of the Rock and Fortress of Gibraltar.
Rare. Carter was from a military family and kept up the family tradition by serving in the 1st Foot Regiment. A talented amateur artist, he was stationed in Gibraltar.

Folio, preface, list of plates, one leaf of descriptive text for each plate, lithographed title within black-ink ruled frame; 14 hand-coloured lithographed plates, heightened with gum Arabic, unsigned, mounted on card, one map. Dark half morocco portfolio with gilt rule and gilt embossed coat-of-arms of Gibraltar to upper cover, with original ties and text and plates unbound as issued. Several plates show military batteries, trooping of the guards, etc. Coloured plates in order: 1. Title page. A statue of Lord Heathfield in the Alameda Gardens. 2.
