MONNIER, Henry.
Scènes du jour. Les Péchés Capitaux.

An excellent copy of this extremely scarce series of plates. Of Monnier, the humorist, Bret Harte, the American author, wrote, "It is only the true humorist who knows how to ensnare his audience and at the same time amuse himself with his own humour." Monnier grew up in post-revolutionary France and matured in Restoration France - and it is this France he depicted so beautifully and brilliantly.
