Scenery of the Windward and Leeward Islands.
A very rare complete set of among the most desirable 19th century colour aquatint views of West Indian landscape. John Herbert Caddy was born into a family of military engineers. Caddy was trained at Woolwich in topographical sketching and painting.

Oblong folio (14 x 20 ½ inches). Unbound as issued in original green cloth portfolio, re-backed and cornered, new silk ties, gilt scroll panel to upper board. 12 hand-coloured aquatint plates. Each plate signed. Some plates repaired and fragile. Rare complete set of these attractive views. The artist is little known, except that he was of the Royal Engineers. Label of 'Edward Marshall' to front pastedown. Coloured plates in order: 1. Rosseau, Dominica. 2. Kingstown, St. Vincent from Cane-Garden Point. 3. Brimstone Hill, St. Kitts. 4. Fort Charlotte, St. Vincent's from Kingston. 5. The Old Crater of the Soufriere, St. Vincent. 6. The Pitons or Sugar Loaves, St. Lucia. 7. Sandy Point, St. Kitts. 8. Pigeon Island, & Village of Gros Islet, St. Lucia. 9. The Town of Castries, St. Lucia. 10. View from Morne Fortune, St. Lucia. 11.
