FIRST EDITION. (ii) [engraved title-page advertisement] 389 (i) [blank] (ii) [contents and directions for placing the plates]. The folding map and eight of the nine plates, including the frontispiece of Moscow, are all hand-coloured. Lacking the final plate, 'Officer of Imperial Guards,' the other six costume plates are present. The plate of St Petersburg has quite heavy foxing chiefly affecting the border, but the other plates have only minor spotting and are otherwise bright and in good order, including the map, although this has a little soiling to the border. Occasional minor foxing to the text. 8vo in a new binding of a full sprinkled brown calf, boards ruled in blind, spine with raised bands and red lettering-piece lettered in gilt. Marbled edges and endpapers. Binding Fine, contents Very Good. Hardcover. Coloured plates in order: 1. View of Moscow before the Conflagration. 2. [Folding map] Russian Empire. 3. Winter Walking Dress. 4. A Peasant. 5. Peasants Wife. 6. A Merchants Wife. 7. An Abbot. 8. Don Cossack. 9. St. Petersburg.
