The first book with colored panels about Indonesia, complete with the 3 maps/city plans and the 27 lithographed plates, 18 of which were coloured by hand. A famous Dutch language narrative by this author, an officer of the Dutch East Indies Army, his sea-voyage to the Dutch East Indies, and his tours on Java.

[Travel to the East Indies or land and sea passages during the first two years of my stay in Java.] J. & H. van Langenhuysen. 2 Parts in 1 volume. 2 Lithograph titles; 3 Folded maps; 18 hand-coloured lithographs (costumes), nine lithographed views (some of which are slightly water stained), and numerous wood engravings in text. Recent 1/4 leather with contemp. marbled boards. Dutch MS dedication, dated 31/12/1857 to front free endpaper. 401 Pp. The author served in the Dutch East-Indian army. The first part is about the voyage to the Dutch Indies. He described Spain, Portugal, Western Africa, and several islands on his way to the east. The second part describes his stay in the Dutch Indies and gives very detailed information about customs and daily life. Some pages are slightly spotted. Overall a nice copy!
