Atlas du Manuel du Tourneur.
The illustrations show wood-turning machinery and tools, finished products, and hand-coloured depictions of 72 varieties of wood grain. Bergeron s work ranks as a classic. Although published long ago, it inspired and influenced almost all other authors to the end of the 19th century and records what was known of the art up to the date of publication. Intended for the wealthy amateurs at a period when ornamental turning was fashionable in France, it is an encyclopedic record of the development of the lathe at that time.

Four volumes in three two volumes (text) and atlas (two volumes in one) bound in the original publisher's speckled boards original letterpress labels to the spines the three volumes preserved in a custom-made quarter chocolate brown morocco fall-down-back box the spine lettered in gilt; xxxii pp. 509 [1]; xi [1] pp. 542; atlas engraved and etched title-page 39 engraved plates (mostly folding) of which eight are hand-coloured; letterpress title-page 57 engraved plates (mostly folding) uncut. A superb copy of the preferred second edition revised and considerably augmented by P. Hamelin-Bergeron of a work considered hitherto to be the last word on the subject. Although not named on the title page, the work is thought to have been compiled by Louis George Isaac Salivet (1737-1805). The majority of the engraved plates are double-page eight of these depict wood samples with original hand-colouring. Coloured plates in order: 1.
