The Europe series is known as a popular 19th-century work with illustrations that support the historical location descriptions. Bayard Taylor (1825 - 1878) was an American poet, literary critic, translator, travel author, and diplomat.

pp. 488, 459, 491. Period embossed full leather bindings, raised bands, title to spine in gilt, embossed title on upper board with ornate blind-stamped designs, all edges in gilt. Boards rubbed and worn, marbled endpapers. Large, beautifully presented, profusely illustrated, and well-preserved late 19th-century three-volume set featuring countless wood-engraved illustrations and 63 full-page steel-engraved plates. (c 300 engravings in total) Highlights both the architectural and the natural, spectacular scenery of Europe. Plates are uncoloured, therefore not listed.
