A book for elegant ladies of the Restoration, nicely illustrated with engravings of modes assorted with calendars. These almanacs present the collections by season, and bring out their character by featuring famous protagonists. They gave a detailed description of the toilets, the addresses of the good makers, reviewed the theaters, walks and entertainments of each season.

Vol. I (1814) with eight coloured engravings -of which five are of contemporary empire styles, and two are of Chinese costume, plus a coloured title page and an extensive index. Vol II (1815) six coloured engravings, five of which are French empire fashion and one of English design, plus a final section detailing the fine fashion shops serving Paris society -- from hats to perfumes and all in between. Orig. wrappers bound in an exquisite binding by Thierry-Simier -- front and back boards have gilt fillets and an attractive frame gilt border design, housing interior fillets in gilt and blind with centred armorial escutcheon. Gilt back-strip designs and lettering, inner gilt dentelles. Philip and Frances Hofer bookplates. Scattered light foxing to text, one plate slightly toned. Full navy straight-grained morocco.
