ADAM, Jean-Victor-Vincent.

A Rare Book on Coaching. Jean-Victor Adam (1801-1867) was a French painter and lithographer. Born in Paris he was the son of Jean Adam, an esteemed engraver. During the years 1814 to 1818 he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, and also in the ateliers of Meynier and Régnault.

Oblong quarto, 36 hand-coloured lithographs, original printed wrappers bound in, upper wrapper forming a title, contemporary 3/4 brown cloth, upper board with blue morocco title label gilt over marbled boards, label in gilt to spine. Bookplate "Ex Libris A. Vautier" to front pastedown. "A retrospective exhibition of engravings and "lithographies d'attelage" was held in 1900, exhibiting ancient coaches, and including many of Adam's lithographs and engravings both in b/w and in colour."
