GULLY, John.
Julius von Haast.
New Zealand Scenery.
The highly-coloured chromolithographs are the feature of this work, one of the few early New Zealand plate books. "Mr. Gully, the artist, ranks as one of the most accomplished artists New Zealand produced." (Hocken). The 15 chromolithographs based on Gully's original watercolours were accompanied by descriptive text written by Haast. The plates depict prominent landmarks and scenes, from Mt Taranaki and Lake Taupo in the north to Bradshaw Sound in the south.
