Beautiful vivid prints of ancient fresco walls and mosaics excavated at Pompeii. In the age before photographic color images, drawings, prints and paintings of frescoes served as souvenirs for the great libraries of Grand Tour travelers and patrons and provided inspiration to neoclassical architects and decorative art designers.

Un volume in-4 oblong ; percaline d’éditeur bleue, titre en lettres dorées au plat supérieur, tranches dorées. 19 planches parmi lesquelles 17 magnifiques gouaches napolitaines représentant des fresques de Pompéi (7) et des vues de Naples et ses environs (12). An oblong quarto volume; blue editor's percaline, title in gilt letters on the upper cover, gilt edges. Nineteen plates, including seventeen magnificent Neapolitan gouaches representing frescoes from Pompeii (7) and views of Naples and its surroundings (12).Beautifully illustrated and with fresh, vibrant colouration. Marbled endpapers, with original tissue guards for each plate. Spine showing signs of rubbing and wear, else in excellent condition. Coloured plates in order: 1. Pompei - Mosaisque (black dog on a lead). 2. Pompei - Peintures. (three ladies with three winged cherubs, one in a cage). 3. [Not captioned] Fresco of a decorative interior wall. 4.
