Folio. 60pp. According to the Roman breviary, the service is written out with musical annotation, using plainsong. Decorated with elaborate opening floral ornaments, two large, beautifully hand-illuminated initials, and numerous smaller painted and historiated initials. In a contemporary binding of a rich, deep brown calf, with metal corner pieces and one of two leather clasps. Gilt decorations on both boards consist of a rectangular border composed of small ornamental devices and, in the centre of the boards, a skull and crossbones medallion of Adam with “D. C. C.” and “S. R. D.” stamped above and below, respectively, within a frame of floriated gilt work. Spine with five raised bands edged at top and bottom with gilt devices matching those on the covers. Top hinge starting, spine worn at head and foot. Boards rubbed and worn, some damage to top and tail of spine. Some offsetting throughout the interior, as expected, and preliminaries are slightly loose. Lacks upper fore-edge clasp. Overall, a lovely manuscript in a handsome binding, showing some wear but attractive and powerfully evocative of its period. In a newly made professional Solander box in brown cloth. Coloured plates in order. 1. Title page. 2. Index page. 3. Page with floral decoration.
