ONLY EDITION. RARE. Quarter calf binding with a gilt rule to boards and spine; raised bands to spine; title in gilt to spine; marbled paper. Top edge gilt. Even toning throughout. A fantastic collection of fascinating illusionist disguises. Large 8vo. Twelve pairs of hand-coloured lithographs representing illusions for Weddings and Balls. German text. The plates do not have any captions. Plates are not captioned. Coloured plates in order: 1-2. Old woman giving a man a 'Pick-a-back.' 3-4. Monk with a 'straw' lady on his back. 5-6. A small man with a large head has another man seated cross-legged on top of his head. 7-8. A man with the top half of his body faces forward while the lower half faces backward. 9-10. A man is seen mending some cloth while seated at a large table. 11-12. A man (Bacchus) is sitting astride a wine barrel. 13-14. A carnival character 'riding' a costume horse. 15-16. A man is seen walking with two heads and three legs. 17-18. An old woman with a masked man riding on her back in a wicker basket. 19-20. A man is seen walking on his hands. 21-22. A 'man' consisting of wine or beer barrels. 23-24. A fierce-looking 'giant' magician / sorcerer (?)
