[French India or Collection of images Representing Divinities, Temples, Furniture, Arms Ornaments, Utensils, Religious Ceremonies and Scenes of Private Life] Folio. Contemporary half red morocco, title to spine in gilt, with raised bands - Lower board ruled in blind, the upper board ruled in blind, and title tooled in gilt. All edges gilt. Twenty-four lithographed plates, all beautifully coloured by hand. A beautiful set. Designed by Le Beau, Midy, Geringer, and others and lithographed by Marlet, Motte, and Racinet. 24 leaves with text. A rare set of hand-coloured lithographs illustrating daily life, costumes, divinities, temples, and other scenes of India during the first half of the 19th century. The work was published in installments, and around 1838, we know of a "finished" set of 144 lithographs, but not coloured as per the earlier issue. Coloured plates in order: 1. Mannarsouvami. 2.
