Libro de Casamiento 1889. [Marriage Book]
A delightful illuminated Spanish manuscript on marriage in vellum, published towards the end of the nineteenth century. All the miniatures are done by the well-known French painter Alexandre Bida. The work is split into sections: 'Marriage Mass,' 'Celebration of Marriage,' and 'Family Memories.'

8vo (158 x 128 mm). Beautifully bound in full crushed blue morocco with gilt in rule in panels, fleur-de-lys, and floral patterns to boards; spine in six compartments with gilt raised bands, gilt letters in the second compartment, and an attractive repeat gilt floral motif to all other compartments; exquisite gilt inner dentelles; all edges gilt; silk pattern endpapers. The images are beautifully coloured, and the contents are good throughout. Coloured plates in order: 1. Frontispiece. Marriage Ceremony. 2. Book Title. Decorated with landscape scenes and depictions of Fruit. 3. Celebracion del Casamiento. 4. Matrimonial lines (for the bride) with beautiful marginal illuminations. 5. Matrimonial lines (for the groom) with beautiful marginal illuminations. 6. Continuation of Matrimonial lines with initial gilt letters and beautiful illumination to the margins. 7-10. As above. 11. Misa de Casamiento. Illustrated with a depiction of Madonna and child. 12. Continuation of the Marriage Mass with initial gilt letters and floral illuminations to the margin. 13. As above with flowers and bird illuminations to the margin. 14-23. As above with initial gilt letters and attractive illuminations to the margins. 24. Initial letter 'E.' 25. Recuerdos de Familia. [There are several red ruled, blank pages for recording 'family memories' etc.]
