Les Douze Apotres Emaux de Leonard Limosin Conserves a Chartres, dans L'Eglise Saint Pierre.

Superb large colourful engravings of the 12 apostles as conserved in St. Pierre Church in Chartres, France. Saint Pierre church was formerly an abbey church of the Benedictines of Saint-Père-en-Vallée. The church has a similar architectural style to the cathedral - a distinctive Gothic style.

Fresh red half leather with new cloth boards; flat spine with title in (new) gilt. Illustrated with 12 superbly hand-coloured plates engraved by M. Alleaume. The plates depict the Twelve Apostles of Christ and are after enamel portraits by Limosin - the most famous of a family of seven Limoges painters. P. title printer's imprint 3-8 plates. Fresh gilt to spine; rebound in red leather with a new cloth to boards. otherwise excellent copy with striking colour plates which are clean and crisp. *Rebinding and restoration work on this book carried out by Ron Norman of Hartlepool.
