FIRST EDITION of this critical short novel by Bourges is a supernatural tale of infanticide and revenge. Illustrated with 48 hand-colored plates by Louis Malteste, primarily set in french text and not captioned. This Edition is limited to 350 copies printed on fine wove paper. THIS IS A UNIQUE COPY THAT BELONGED TO ROMAGNOL, THE PUBLISHER. In addition to the book itself, it comprises A VERY IMPORTANT SIGNED AUTOGRAPH LETTER (dated March 18, 1911) FROM BOURGES TO CHARLES MORICE IN WHICH HE DISCUSSES HIS LITERARY ACTIVITIES; a complete set of the illustrations uncoloured; additional proofs of the illustrations; Malteste's original drawing for the title-page in pencil and watercolour; a set of page proofs of the text without illustrations; two prospectuses (with original etchings by Loui s Morin) for the other publications of the Collection de l'Academie des Goncourt"; and an annotated visiting card from Malteste. 8vo.
