MONTESQUIEU, Charles-Louis de Secondat Baron de
Le Temple de Gnide et Arsace et Ismenie.

Le Temple de Gnide is a poem of seven prose songs published without an author's name published in 1725 by Montesquieu. This prose poem divided into seven cantos was presented as the translation of a Greek text when it was written for the gallant society and the court of Chantilly. At the end of 1725 Montesquieu caused a scandal by publishing it under the pseudonym of a Greek bishop during Holy Week.
