Thick folio. (33 x 23 cm.) single column, 13 lines provincial scrawling script in Arabic, some sections and surah headings in red, opening and closing two leaves with richly painted borders, heightened in silver, in good condition. Housed in wooden boards decorated with metal ornamental devices, framed within a green border, in good condition. Coloured plates in order: 1. Text on a circular gilt background, surrounded by attractive, circular floral ornamentation; this, in turn, is bordered by more floral embellishment on a red background. 2-3. Text with decorative floral, gilt-edged borders on a red background. 4-5. Text with decorative, brightly coloured borders. 6-7. Text with intertwined, decorative floral, gilt-edged borders on a red background. 8. Text on a circular gilt background, surrounded by attractive, circular floral ornamentation; this, in turn, is bordered by more floral embellishment on a red background. Provenance: Sultan Muhammad Salleh (1841-1915) was a Malay statesman, traveller, and military leader who served in the administration of the independent kingdom of Johor from 1856 to 1912, today part of Malaysia.
