An account of James Wathen's voyage to India and China with his school friend, Captain James Prendergast, illustrated by the author. Places visited include Madras (Chennai), Pondicherry, Pulo Penang, Malacca, Canton, and St. Helena.

Contemporary calf with a gilt-tooled border and corner devices; spine with raised bands; gilt rules and blind tooling to compartments; twin gilt-lettered brown labels; marbled endpapers. Armorial bookplate of 'Frederick Symonds MA Magd. Col Oxon'.(motto) 'Nec Parvis Sisto'. Joints expertly repaired. 24 Hand-coloured aquatint plates by J. Clark after Wathen. Light tape residue marks to boards along the edge of the spine; trivial scuffing to boards; intermittent light spotting to text margins of plates. Attractive plates. Coloured plates in order: 1.
