Intagli e dichiarazioni di apparati e di carritrionfali fatti in Reggio nel maggio dell'anno 1842...
First edition of this rare book published to celebrate the wedding of Francesco V d'Este, Duke of Modena, and Adelgonda Caroline of Bavaria, in March 1842. In April the couple moved to Modena, and in May the city celebrated the event by setting up scenographies and embellishing public buildings, with great parades of chariots going both day and night, including one representing the Jewish community. The book is divided into two sections, showing the chariots for the night and the day, illustrating the themes of the show, ranging from those allegorical-seasonal to mythological subjects, and also illustrating the decorations realized for the facades of some buildings.

[Carvings and declarations of apparatus and triumphal chariots made in Reggio in May of the year 1842...] Oblong folio, red morocco with arms of Modene Baviere in the centre of upper board, spine and boards richly gilded, inner dentelles and on leading edges, all edges gilt. Complete with 31 lithographed plates, of which one is folding. Finely heightened with gouache and contemporary colouring. 2 stamps on verso of title, same on recto of the last sheet of text. In lovely condition. FIRST EDITION of this beautiful book, published on the occasion of the celebration of Francois V of Habsbourg-Este's wedding, crown Prince of Moderna, with the Princess Adelgonde of Bavaria. The wedding took place on March 30th, 1842, and the couple settled in Moderna. In May, the city organised a gorgeous series of feats to celebrate this event, also parades and the rich embellishment of all public buildings. The superb illustrations show many allegorical, mythological symbols, Egyptian and Chinese floats, etc. Many houses and buildings surrounding Modena were richly decorated. Each plate has descriptive text on the facing page in an elegant frame.
