A scarce title in the World in Miniature series which ran to 43 volumes. Contains illustrations of the character, manners, customs, religion, dress, amusements, commerce, agriculture, & the people of that Empire. 'The World in Miniature' aimed to "increase the store of knowledge concerning the various branches of the great family of Man" (Abbey).

Edited by Frederic Shoberl. 2 vols in one. 29 of 30 hand-coloured plates. 257 pp. Hardcover. 16mo. Blue cloth. Gilt lettering and ruling to spine. Extremities lightly bumped and rubbed. Pressure points are starting to wear. Spine lightly sunned and pulled. Boards lightly soiled. Top edge dust-soiled. Edges and pages lightly to moderately yellowed edges more so with light scattered foxing and staining. Endpapers discoloured, previous owner's name stamp " T.J. Westropp, 115, Strand Road, Sandymount" and MS gift inscription in ink "From his Aunt Lady Dillon Massy of Dounass, 1874" to front pastedown and front flyleaf. The Interior is still clean and tight.
