The author describes his journey through Tuscany in 1848-1857, illustrated with fine colour plates, mainly from Deroy's 'Souvenirs d'Italie.'

Oblong 8vo. Contemporary half green morocco, spine gilt, sides black morocco with gilt and blind-tooled decoration, blue silk endpapers, gilt-edged. Manuscript in an elegant script, in brown ink, including a calligraphed title and a dedication, interleaved with ten hand-coloured lithographs (Paris, Jeannin) heightened with gum arabic and two hand-coloured engravings, all with views on Florence, Siena, Pisa and surroundings, and one watercolour with a view on Livorno. I-IV, 22 lvs. Delightful manuscript by father Tommaso Pendola (1800-1883), teacher and founder of the 'Royal Institute for the Deaf' ('Instituto Reale Toscano per Sordomuti') at Siena in 1828. The album is dedicated to Paolina Sommi Picenardi (1812-1867), a member of the noble Milanese Verri family who was married to Gerolamo Sommi Picenardi (1801-1863). The noble Sommi Picenardi family resided at the Villa Sommi Picenardi at Lecco near Milan. In excellent condition, 'Officina del Sordo-muti' is lettered in gold on the inside back cover.- (Some leaves are partly loose). Coloured plates in order: 1. Florence.
