A worn full leather folio mid-Victorian family Holy Bible with decorative gilt tooling to the outer edges of the front and back boards. The spine is divided into five separate compartments with ruled gilt and leather raised bands, with a nice repeat gilt motif in four bands. A rich red leather band with the title in gilt to the second band. Covers are stained, rubbed and worn, as is the spine. The outer hinges are cracked and the inner hinges are becoming loose on both the front and back boards. Marbled edges and marbled endpapers, with the front endpaper having a damaged red leather and gilt bookplate - "[?] & M. Betts, [W]ater Eaton, 1863." On the verso of the front free endpaper is a MS note "May 20 1868. Mary Ann Meachem the Gift of her Dear Father & mother When they van use it no longer." Foxing throughout. With a half title page, a full title page, a comprehensive order of the books in both the old and new testaments, and a table of the engravings. Coloured plates in order: Old Testament. 1. Judith. 2.
