Vol II: two inch closed tear to frontispiece. .Vol III : Frontis chipped and reinforced with 2 tear to corner. Vol IV: frontis detached and heavily chipped; two inch closed tear to title page. Hundreds of plates and gorgeous illustrations throughout all four volumes many hand coloured. Some plates have some minor foxing or soiling but all very good save for each having a small ink library ownership stamp on the corner of each illustration. Ex-library with usual markings. Nicolas was a British antiquary who served as a barrister before the House of Lords and was also a knight of the Royal Guelphic Order and chancellor and knight-commander of the Order of St Michael and St George. This is Nicolas' most important work. Quarto. Purple library stamp "Brooklyn Public Library": this stamp is on every plate. The number of plates follows: Volume I: Frontis and title page.
