DAVENPORT, W.
Historical Portraiture of Leading Events in the Life of Ali Pacha.
A large copy of this picturesque life of Ali Pasha, the Turkish pasha whose court employed the Greek language, as that was the language of most of his populace. The text is taken from Beauchamp's Life of Ali Pacha, the work providing a romanticized account of the extraordinary life of the Albanian-born Ali Pasha (1741-1822), who was given the epithet Aslan, or "The Lion."The strikingly dramatized scenes depicted were chosen by Davenport to give a romantic view of Ali Pacha's life. Six hand-colored aquatint engravings after Davenport.
