[House, town, and country, pictorial representations from life.] FIRST EDITION. With 12 spectacular hand-coloured lithographs of Biedermeier Era childhood. (32 x 24 cm) This work is EXTREMELY RARE. The imagery is also especially appealing, depicting various activities involving children and/or through children's eyes during the day. The titles of the plates barely capture the fullness or details of the imagery, and it is often the little incidental aspects of these illustrations wherein lies the charm. Captions are rendered in French, German and English. There is no title page and no evidence that there ever was one. 1/4 red morocco with a splendid pictorial title page over paper boards. Boards cracked and worn in places, plates a little soiled but colours bright and crisp. Coloured plates in order: 1. Dressing. 2. The playroom. 3. The grandfather's gift. 4. The instruction. 5. The ride in a coach. 6. The place of amusement in the open air. 7. The stable. 8. Pasture-land for horses. 9. The military game. 10. The horse-pond. 11. The vernal feast. 12. The evening prayers.
