Gustav Adolf und der dreissigjahrige Kreig. [Gustav Wolf and the Thirty Years' War.]
Gustav II Adolf from the House of Wasa was king from 1611 to 1632 of Sweden and one of the most important figures in Swedish history and the Thirty Years' War. Through reforms and his military-political actions, he made a significant contribution to giving Sweden a hegemonic positionin northern Europe, which existed until the beginning of the 18th century. His intervention in the Thirty Years' War in Germany, which was motivated by the assertion of this hegemonic position, prevented a victory for the imperial - Catholic camp of the Habsburgs and thus also secured the existence of German Protestantism .

Contemporary half calf, spine gilt; edges coloured and speckled; marbled endpapers; minor shelf wear to boards; some foxing and offset to text and plates. FIRST EDITION. - Extensive description of the causes, consequences, and the effects until the end of the 30 years war (1618-48). The war was one of the most destructive conflicts in European History, principally a religious war between 'Protestant States and Allies' & 'The Roman Catholic States and Allies'. The major consequence of the war was the devastation of entire regions by the opposing armies. With nice hand-coloured plates. MS signature of "Rich Arenberger" to prelim.
