Imperial folio, 26 loose hand-coloured plates, mounted on card, hand titled beneath, with loosely inserted letterpress descriptive leaf listing titles of plates, issued in two parts. Quarter leather, with leather and gilt label to upper board, matching ties. In a modern morocco-backed green cloth box, gilt to spine. Superb plates of outdoor life in Scotland, with scenes of hunting and hawking. Taylor was a celebrated watercolourist, landscape and figure painter, etcher, and illustrator. He was born in Hertfordshire, educated at Eton and Harrow, then studied at the R.A., and later in Paris under Vernet. "Taylor was most fond of painting country scenes involving hunting and hawking and based on the landscapes of Scotland where he was a frequent visitor" (House, Dictionary of British Book Illustrators and Caricaturists, p.475).
